RefCom Champions Accessibility: Mobility Cart Donation Event Empowers People with Disabilities

May 16, 2025 – RefCom Office

In a heartwarming display of compassion and commitment to inclusivity, RefCom hosted a life-changing event aimed at supporting 50 individuals with disabilities from all over Rabai Sub-County by providing them with mobility carts to enhance their mobility and independence. The initiative, held at RefCom’s headquarters at Mkapuni, Mwawesa Ward, on May 16, 2025, was spearheaded by Lennox Ringa, the organization’s dedicated Programs Lead, on behalf of the entire RefCom team and also graced by Titus Kiema from Partners for Care, an NGO committed to supporting people with disabilities. He was accompanied by Benson Garama and Joshua Karisa, also from Partners for Care.

Breaking Barriers, One Mobility Cart at a Time

For many people with disabilities, navigating daily chores can be a daunting challenge due to limited mobility. Recognizing this struggle, RefCom stepped in to bridge the gap by distributing specially designed mobility carts to beneficiaries from underserved communities. The event not only provided physical support but also reaffirmed RefCom’s mission to uplift the less privileged and promote an inclusive society.

Lennox Ringa, in his address, emphasized the importance of accessibility and dignity for all. "……..At RefCom, we believe that no one should be held back by physical limitations. Today, we are not just giving **mobility carts**; we are restoring freedom, independence, and hope. Every individual deserves the opportunity to move freely and participate fully in their communities…….."

A Day of Joy and Transformation

The beneficiaries, accompanied by their families and caregivers, expressed overwhelming gratitude as they received their mobility carts. Many shared heartfelt stories of how the lack of mobility had restricted their daily lives, preventing them from working, attending school, or even performing simple household tasks.

One beneficiary from Mbungoni, Kambe Ribe Ward, Arnold Sagala Shabaki, tearfully recounted his struggles: "…..For years, I’ve had to rely on others to move around. This **mobility cart** means I can finally go to the market on my own and take care of myself without waiting for help. RefCom has given me back my dignity……."

RefCom’s Continued Commitment

This initiative is part of RefCom’s broader strategy to address societal inequalities and support vulnerable groups. The organization remains steadfast in its advocacy for disability rights, ensuring that people with disabilities have access to the tools and opportunities they need to thrive.

As the event concluded, Lennox Ringa reiterated RefCom’s pledge to expand such programs, calling on partners and well-wishers to join hands in creating a more equitable world. "……Today is just the beginning. Together, we can break down barriers and build a society where no one is left behind……."

Join the Movement - RefCom Calls for Collective Action on Disability Inclusion

RefCom invites individuals, corporations, and NGOs to support future initiatives aimed at empowering people with disabilities. Through collective action, we can make mobility and independence a reality for all.

At the mobility cart donation event on May 16, 2025, RefCom Chairman James Katana issued a rallying cry for inclusive development, urging stakeholders to join hands in breaking barriers for persons with disabilities. He emphasized that true progress can only be achieved when all members of society are empowered to participate fully in social and economic life.

"To our partners, donors, and champions of inclusion: this is not just RefCom's mission – it's Kenya's shared responsibility. Every mobility cart we provide, every ramp we build, and every policy we influence unlocks potential. I challenge corporations, NGOs, and individuals to invest in accessibility solutions today. Together, we can transform 'disability' into 'this ability' and build a nation where no one watches life from the sidelines."
